Healthy Aging - 5 Tips to Feel Young Everyday

Many of us do not think about health consequences of our lifestyle. When we are young, we have a notion that the youth will continue forever and we can do whatever we want. There has been a perpetual search for the “fountain of youth” ongoing for years across diverse cultures.

Healthy aging can be simply defined as living a healthy lifestyle after 50 with optimum well-being and no sickness, feeling happy and contented and maintaining a healthy relationship with other people. Health aging could bring forth many formidable challenges, but if we carefully deal with it, the efforts will be certainly worth.

So how we can promote healthy aging by maintaining a healthy lifestyle? Below tips can be helpful.

1. Have a well-balanced diet

Nutrition play a crucial role in healthy aging and longevity. Eating the right kind of food, in the right amount and at the right time is one of the key steps towards achieving a healthy aging goal. 

Failing to get balanced diet will make you vulnerable to diseases and prevent you from doing things that you should do at that age.


Make sure you are getting enough proteins, minerals, and vitamins in your diet. While simultaneously you should decrease the amount of animal fat to stay fit.  

2. Get plenty of sleep

Our body’s restorative and regenerative process happens during sleep. Many older adults often complain about their sleeping habits such as lighter sleep, problems in falling asleep and waking up early in the morning and not feeling refreshed at all.

A good night sleep is very important to maintain memory and concentration, lack of which is considered signs of aging. So the older we get, the more time our body takes for recovering.


Get 7-9 hours of sleep to recover from any stressors and realign your natural balance.

3. Stop smoking

We know it is easy to say but hard to be done but smoking will not only shorten your life but hamper the quality of life. 

Smoking can affect almost every part of the body. It contributes to cardiovascular and lung cancer diseases which are one of the major causes of death today.


Several researches show that the moment you quit smoking, you can see the results within 48 hours as your body begins to heal. 

Your heart and blood pressure return to normal, lungs begin to clear and nicotine and carbon monoxide start leaving your body. Long-term health benefits of quitting smoking are numerous.

4. Get regular exercise

Healthy aging goals cannot be achieved without having regular exercise in your schedule. The reason is simple, as you age your bones start losing density and as a result, you lose muscle mass. 

Many studies have proven that sedentary lifestyle or life with less physical activity can speed up aging. One way to combat this is to stay active.


Weight-bearing exercise such as walking reduces the amount of bone and muscle mass loss. It also keeps your cardiovascular system healthy. 

Apart from this, cycling and swimming are also wonderful forms of cardio exercises that are gentler on your joints.

5. Keep your brain fit and fine

As stress has become part of our everyday life, we should learn how to cope with it. It is also one of the main reasons why people age faster and become vulnerable to diseases. 

Moreover, no matter how healthy our body is, if our mind is not healthy and active, we would not be able to enjoy later years.


Many aging people have found dancing, yoga, massage, and music a good source for stress relievers. You can also play some strategy games, some crossword and jigsaw puzzles or some other hobbies that require you to use your brain.

Healthy aging and wellness are to know how to balance and care the three essential aspects of life; mind, body, and spirit. Don’t believe in those myths that say old age means poor health. 

Aging people can very well fight the signs of aging by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

So make one change per day towards your goal of health and longevity and you will find that within a few weeks you are feeling younger every day.
