Suffering From Inflammation? These 6 Essential Oils Are Blessing

At one point of time in life, everyone has to encounter the discomfort of chronic health problems. There are numerous things that causes inflammation and pain as our body’s natural response to injuries sometime get weaken and if one is of old age, things get worse with the time.

Not everyone can confront the underlying effects of these conditions, but fortunately, natural essential oils are an effective treatment for inflammation and pain. Let’s go through six of the most important essential oils and their pain relieving properties.

1. Ginger Oil

The therapeutic properties of ginger are well known since time immemorial. It gives relief from backache and rapidly improves sore joints. Ginger is warming, highly anti-inflammatory and analgesic, so it’s best in treating rheumatoid arthritis. The essential oil can be applied topically while it can also be inhaled and taken internally. Even if this oil therapy is used for longer time period, it has no adverse effects.

Application

Rub two-three drops of oil on the affected region twice daily or it can also be inhaled. Initially one would feel a slight burning sensation which lasts only a few seconds, but it heals quickly.

2. Peppermint Oil

The antispasmodic characteristics of peppermint are medically proven and can be used in relieving muscle spasms and cramps besides several other problems such as indigestion, nausea and stomach ache. Peppermint essential oil is derived from the amalgamation of spearmint and watermint while menthol is the major ingredient of the oil extract.

Application

Dilute a few drops of this oil with two tablespoon of almond oil or jojoba and massage onto the inflamed joints. For more cooling and increase in soothing, add a few drops of citrus oil. Peppermint can also be used as a combination with rosemary oil.

3. Sandalwood Oil

Since its one of the most expensive oils, one can easily comprehend its magical healing effects. Apart from its anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic attributes, it is a boon for skeletal pain, muscle pain and neuralgia. Another significant curative power of sandalwood oil is that it sedates the nervous system and when inhaled, it reduces the production of adrenaline.

Application

Just have a daily dose of three drops in a cup of water or it can also be mixed with any carrier oil for getting relief from sore muscle and knee pain.

4. Lavender Oil

The pure clean scent of Lavender and its universal first-aid healing is well known. Besides a number of healing properties, the essential oil is perhaps the most popular remedy when it comes to burns, migraine and headaches. It is also beneficial in treating sore muscles, back pain and other rheumatic conditions.

Application

Mere inhalation of Lavender vapour is enough to give instant relief in most of the cases. Apart, a few drops could be applied undiluted or it can be mixed with one teaspoon coconut oil and be applied to the affected area.

5. Rosemary

The rosemary oil is quick on action when it comes to inflammation, muscle pain and spasms. Known as memory enhancer, the oil is host to numerous medicinal qualities. It also stimulates appetite and improves blood circulation.

Application

The oil is a painkiller in itself and can be massaged on the affected area with or without the combination of analgesic drugs.

6. Chamomile Oil

Chamomile is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent that contains distinctive healing properties. The flavonoids present in chamomile can easily penetrate into the skin and reduce inflammation instantly. It is also effective in nerve pain, back pain, muscle spasms and stomach cramps.

Application

For pain relief, mix a few drops with a carrier oil such as almond oil, olive oil or coconut oil and massage the affected area. It can also be inhaled for around 15 minutes until the headache or pain is gone.

Exercising Forethought While Using Essential Oils

Essential oils are powerful as they contain a number of active compounds, so the potency should not be underestimated. Although there are no side effects of essential oils in most of the cases but it is better to consult a medical professional or an aromatherapist before using it.

It shouldn’t be applied if one is on heart medication, allergic or it is not advisable for pregnant woman and young children. It is better to use small amount of diluted essential oil first if you are not sure about it.
