Is it good for me?

Actually, it depends on several things. Moderate amount of everything is good for health. If we can metabolize coffee quickly and doesn’t fill it up with sweeteners or cream, it is more likely to give positive results.

Unfortunately, most of us can’t tolerate active ingredient of coffee i.e. caffeine in comparison to others. This is slow metabolization. This means you tend to feel weird after a cup or two or experience sleep disruptions after having a cup. 

Coffee can also jeopardize health by increasing the risk of miscarriage, stomach problem, anxiety, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and other effects.

On the contrary, the brain of faster metabolizers would feel more alert and lively after a cup. Even the fast metabolizers have an upper edge in terms of health as coffee contains high anti-oxidant properties and vitamin, folate, magnesium and other minerals.

How much coffee to drink?

If you are from the group of fast metabolizers, it’s excellent but even if you are from the league of slow metabolizers, it still safe to have 1 cup of coffee in the morning. Drinking anywhere between 1-3 cups daily would be a reasonable amount of consumption for most of us. If you are craving more than that, then you should hold back your tongue.

Negatives of Coffee at a glance

Coffee no doubt gives you morning jolts but there are some drawbacks also.

  • Adding cream could prove disaster for many overweight people while not minimizing milk adds to the calorie and fat stores.
  • Coffee is also a potent diuretic, an excess of it may force you to frequently visit toilets.
  • It can also cause dehydration and affect your performance in training progress.

So drinking a moderate amount of coffee is not overly harmful. However, we must bear in mind that there are some associated researches that have concluded that large doses may contribute to risks mentioned above. 

So it’s better to keep a watch over your caffeine intake. Feel free to have a cup in the morning.
