When will I get my first period?
The average age when a girl gets her first period is 12 years, but many get earlier and others might get later. Will my period affect me emotionally?
A woman often gets crabby, weepy and usually moody around this period of time. So yes, some girls feel emotionally change but others won’t. This mood swing phenomenon is called PMS or Pre-Menstrual Syndrome that is caused by the same hormones that initiate menstruation. Some might also experience physical symptoms such as constipation, bloating and breast tenderness.
If you experience PMS, avoid caffeine, get adequate sleep and consume low sodium foods.
While you have no idea when this happens for the first time, it’s good to prepare or train yourself for this in advance. Stash some tampons and sanitary pads in your locker or book bag or purse in case you don’t expect it. Also, carry some anti-inflammatory painkilling medicine and spare panty in case of an accident.
